Winter 1996 Vol. 1, Number 4

Welcome to our special Winter music issue. Our feature story is on Serge Gainsbourg. His career began in the 1950s, and when he died in 1990, he was still scoring hit songs for himself and artists like Vanessa Paradis!

Be sure to check out our new music titles. Our on line catalog lists many many more. To check out the full scope of our web site, be sure to visit the Francevision home page.

We missed an important new film in our last issue: Le Hussard sur le toit.. The film stars Juliette Binoche and Olivier Martinez, and was directed by Jean-Paul Rappeneau, who gave us the recent adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac starring Gérard Depardieu.

Also available are: Les anges Gardiens, with Christian Clavier and Depardieu; Les Misérables by Claude Lelouche, starring Jean-Paul Belmondo. Don't confuse Lelouche's World War II drama with either the musical or Victor Hugo's novel. In this film Belmondo plays a truck driver who helps a Jewish family escape the Nazis. The connection to Hugo is quite pronounced and Lelouche has created a complicated but compelling work. All three films are in French without subtitles and are priced at $39.95.

Also available on video is Disney's Toy Story. The French version of this very popular film is priced at $32.00.

Coming soon on video: Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame (Le Bossu de Notre Dame) and Bambi. Both are priced at $32.00. "Hunchback" will be available 20 March 1997, Bambi the 20th of February.

Finally, we have a great concert video: Patricia Kaas: Tour de Charme. Spend two hours with France's most popular female vocalist.

This is our last issue for 1996. All of us at Version Française, Video France and FranceVision wish you and yours all the best this holiday season.
