News! News! News!

The latest album from Daniel Bélanger, Quatre saisons dans le désordre, is doing great business in Québec. His first album, Les insomniacs s'amusent was in the top 10 for nearly a year and a half, and this second release looks destined to be equally successful. François Feldman has a new dance oriented album out, A contre jour (not to confused with the Julie Masse album with the same title!). Ginette Reno has a new release called La chanteuse, with 10 new songs penned by Luc Plamondon including her current hit, "Galaxies".

On the video scene, we have two great new releases to tell you about. The first is L'Appat, directed by Bertrand Tavernier. This is the chilling story of how three adolescents turn into brutal murderers in a bizarre attempt to win the heart of a young woman. Loosely based on true events from 1984, this film won a Golden Bear award at last year's Berlin Film festival, and features Marie Gillian, the daughter from Mon père ce héros and the great Richard Berry.

The other video release is Farinelli -- the amazing true story of the world famous castrato. In the 18th century, no man was more famous, more talented or more beloved than he was. In fact, in order to recreate the singer's phenominal vocal range, the filmmakers used computer technology to blend the voices of a soprano and a contre-tenor. Castrated at the age of 10, Farinelli displayed his enourmous talent in all the royal courts of Europe. Farinelli is the story of fame and fortune and the sacrifices one makes for a life of priviledge.

Other new releases of note: Eliza, starring Vanessa Paradis and La Reine Margot, with Isabelle Adjani.

Big news for Internet surfers, our new Web site, FranceVision is now online. That's where you will find the multimedia edition of this newsletter, our online catalog, details on our video rental club and our weekly TV Magazine, FranceVision! Our plans are for FranceVision to become the web site of choice for Americans interested in all things French. Point your Web browser to http://www.francevision.com.

We have bad news for those of you who prefer cassettes over CDs. Several of our suppliers have discontinued exporting cassettes. This means that even though the cassette version of a given album is available in France, we're not able to acquire it. For example, Véronique Sanson's recent release, Comme ils l'imagine, which we offer as a CD only release is available in France on cassette. But the cassettes are impossible to find outside France, even in Montréal! We will continue to offer cassettes whenever possible, but you should be aware that there are many titles we simply cannot provide in that format.
