Once you hear the opening track, "Personne" ("J'avais perdu l'habitude/ Les clés de la solitude/ J'avais perdu l'amer/ Et les déserts arides/ Même la chaleur des pull-overs"), you will understand his immense popularity. Obispo constructs appealing, infectious melodies that stay in your head long after the last song has finished. The vocals are sweet and somewhat intimate, and he is not afraid to slip into a gentle falsetto on occasion, providing a nice contrast to the rock landscapes of the background music. This is an album full of truly wonderful songs. There are, of course, the radio hits - "Où et avec qui tu m'aimes", "Personne", "Lucie" - but in reality every song is a potential hit. Especially noteworthy are the melancholy "Éléa" ("Les nuits que je passe/ À me passer de toi Pas de nouvelles de toi/ Éléa"), and the haunting "La porte ouverte" ("Dans le noir j'ai du mal à dormir/ Dis fais-moi plaisir cette nuit/ Laisse la porte ouverte"). "Les meilleurs ennemis", the closing song, is a lovely duet with Obispo's frequent writing partner, Zazie. |
