Menelik |
The title song shows Menelik reflecting upon his life: "J'me souviens de mes parents pleurant, trimant, s'privant/ Bossant constamment uniquement pour leurs enfants". On the track "Faut se lacher", he tackles sexual politics: "Le masculin me pousse sa présence/ Le féminin me retien." The clever back-and-forth of "Bye-bye" illustrates the ups and downs of male-female relations. Of course, there is the issue of male ego and competition, always present in rap, addressed frankly here on the song "Le gars t'agaçe?": "À la maison pas les peids tu vas me remorquer/ J'n'ai pas le corps adéquat pour rétorquer" However, it's not all serious: some of these songs are simply the best hip-hop I've heard in years. There is the slow, easy groove of "Léthargie", the cool urban jazz of "Perdu dans mes pensées", and the laid-back swing of "Les palaces, le soleil et la mer bleue". |
