# 04897 $21.95 CD LyricsPatricia Kaas chose rock star Pascal Obispo to help out with her latest release, Le Mot de Passe. Obispo produced and co-wrote most of the material (inclduing one collaboration with frequent partner Zazie), and the result is a powerful collection of songs with sweeping, cinematic arrangements. The album begins with a sultry mid-tempo song, "Ma Liberté Contre la Tienne", full of crescendos and dramatic orchestration. The lovely ballad "Une Fille de l'Est" follows. Jean-Jacques Goldman (who wrote the song) plays guitar while strings soar behind Patricia's trademark voice. The inventive "J'Attends de Nous" mixes live strings and drums with synthesized beats. The best song is the wistful title track, a classic torch song that sends Patricia back to her cabaret roots. Her vocal performance is flawless; this is where she does her strongest work. Another highlight is the space-age rock ballad "Quand Je T'Oublie", where she asserts: "Une femme est ainsi faite / Pour renaître." In the tradition of Kaas' 1997 CD Dans Ma Chair, Le Mot de Passe blends rock, pop and torch into a trademark sound that is pure Patricia Kaas.
