In 1995 Mylène Farmer released a multi-platinum CD - the blockbuster Anamorphosée - and afterward found herself exhausted from the elaborate shows and non-stop schedule. At one point there was even a rumour circulating that she might retire altogether! Well obviously that was just a rumour. After a well-deserved break from the music world, Mylène is back with Innamoramento, her fifth studio album. Building on the techno-pop-rock sound she explored on previous albums, the new songs have a warmth and introspection missing from her earlier work. One thing, however, has not changed, and that is the grandeur of her music. The sweeping keyboards that begin the song "L'Amour Naissant" let you know that her love of the cinematic is undiminished. The second track, "L'Âme-Stram-Gram", is a pounding techno song with an excellent beat and an interesting arrangement that includes disco strings. On the ballad "Pas le Temps de Vivre" Mylène shows a more sensitive side. "Je n'ai pas le temps de vivre/ Quand je perds mon équilibre," she sings. The next song, "Dessine-Moi un Mouton" is an ode to childhood: "Dessine-moi un mouton/ Redevenir l'enfant que nous étions." |
Innamoramento is full of good songs, especially the hit single "Je Te Rends Ton Amour", "Optimistique-Moi" and "Innamoramento". It will surely delight longtime fans, and it also has appeal outside of the usual dance pop market where Mylène had remained for so long. |
