Céline Dion is, by now, an artist who needs no introduction. Her voice is one of the most distinctive and powerful in the world, and she has had the pleasure of singing some of the most wonderful material available. If her American releases have been a little predictable and mired in saccharine arrangements, very different things have been going on across the Atlantic…

After 1995's smash success "D'eux", Dion has once again chosen Jean-Jacques Goldman as writer and producer - a wise choice. Goldman brings 20 years of solid musicianship and songwriting experience. His folk/rock background balances out the soul/gospel leanings of Dion's vocals, and the pairing is magical.

The album begins quietly with the gentle ballad "Je Crois Toi". Céline, backed by a simple guitar and string arrangement, infuses this song with delicacy and vulnerability: "Je crains la nuit quand tu n'es pas là…Je crains le silence après les voix". Next is the song "Zora Sourit", which starts with deceptive simplicity and soon blossoms into a beautiful gospel song.

"On Ne Change Pas", the third track, is not only gorgeous but has the wonderfully incisive lyrics that make Goldman so sought after: "On ne change pas/ On met des costumes d'autres sur soi…Une veste ne cache qu'un peu de ce qu'on voit." The track "Je Chanterai" is a powerful pop song flavored with gospel. The song "En Attendant Ses Pas" is classic Jean-Jacques Goldman, bright and upbeat.

The strongest song is the operatic "Papillon", where Dion is backed by an orchestra. While her vocal is nuanced and perfect down to the last note, it is also full of sheer force and passion. These elements, combined with poetic, eloquent lyrics, make this a moving, superbly graceful song: "Papillon éphemère/ Aux ailes de verre/ Prisonnière du fil de vos secrets."

"Dans un Autre Monde" is a hearty, satisfying rocker that has Céline taking full advantage of her impressive range. "Tous les Blues Sont Écrits Pour Toi" is a searing ballad, while "Terre" is a folk-rock song which suits Dion surprisingly well. The last song, "S'il Suffisait d'Aimer", has a lovely, classical feel, and is the perfect finale to this stunning collection.

Fans of Céline Dion are in for a real treat with this CD. With Jean-Jacques Goldman at her side, Dion has reached a new level of musical excellence. This is a must-have!!!
